KYC & compliance

KYC rules changed from 1 April 2024. Under SEBI circular SEBI/HO/MIRSD/FATF/P/CIR/2023/0144 dated 11 August 2023, KRAs must verify your PAN (including PAN–Aadhaar linkage), name, address, mobile number and email within two days of receiving your KYC records. If any attribute cannot be verified, you will not be allowed to transact until it is corrected — so make sure your KRA holds a valid email ID and mobile number.

Step 1

Check your KYC status

Open your KRA below, enter your PAN and submit to see your status along with the proof you originally submitted.

Step 2

Validate your contact details

Your email and mobile must be validated in your KYC record. Use the link for the KRA that holds your KYC.

Step 3

Move from Registered to Validated

Once your KYC reads “Validated” you can transact anywhere in the securities market without resubmitting documents. To get there, modify your KYC using Aadhaar as the officially valid document.

Before you start

  • Validate your email ID and mobile number with the KRA.
  • Make sure your PAN is already linked with Aadhaar.
  • Keep the mobile number registered against Aadhaar handy for the OTP.

Officially valid documents (OVDs) accepted

Any one of the documents below can be used. Note that only when Aadhaar is used as the OVD, and the KRA validation succeeds, does your status become Validated.

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Proof of possession of Aadhaar number
  • Voter’s ID issued by the Election Commission of India
  • Job card issued by NREGA, duly signed by a State Government officer
  • Letter issued by the National Population Register containing name and address

Keep these ready for the online e-sign route

  • Image of your PAN card
  • Image of your signature
  • Photograph for upload
  • An OVD showing your current address

How the details are verified

You can raise a modification request on your KRA’s website, or download the KYC form from the KRA site and submit it at any investor service centre of an AMC or RTA. The details you enter are validated by the KRA against official databases — the Income Tax database for PAN and the UIDAI database for Aadhaar-related checks.
