Show formula & working
Starting SIP = (Goal then − Savings grown) ÷ Value of a ₹1 step-up SIP after N years
r = assumed annual return ÷ 12; SIPs are taken as invested at the start of each month, as in the Goal SIP calculator.Details
How this works
A step-up plan starts smaller than a flat SIP and grows with your income. The calculator finds the starting amount that still reaches the goal.
You invest more in total than with a flat SIP, because more of it goes in later and has less time to grow.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I invest more in total?
Later instalments have less time to compound, so more money is needed overall — but the early burden is lighter.
What if I cannot keep stepping up?
The plan would fall short; review it each year.
