    How this works

A loan against securities is an overdraft secured by your shares or fund units. The lender lends a share of their value — the rest is a cushion (haircut) against market falls.

RBI caps how much banks may lend as a share of value: 60% on shares, 75% on equity funds and ETFs, 85% on debt funds. In practice lenders usually lend less on equity — typically 45%–50% on shares and equity funds, and 85%–90% on debt funds. NBFCs follow their own rules. The defaults here are 50%, 50% and 85%; change them to your lender's figures.

    Frequently asked questions

    Do I keep my investments?

Yes. They are pledged, not sold, so they stay invested — but you cannot sell them while pledged without the lender's release.

    What if the market falls?

Your drawing power falls with it. If the loan exceeds it, you get a margin call. The LAS Margin Call calculator shows how much fall you can absorb.
