Show formula & working
Broken-period interest = Disbursed amount × Rate × Days ÷ 365
Days run from the disbursal date to the start of the first EMI period (one month before the first EMI date). Some lenders use 360 days.Details
How this works
Your first EMI covers one full month of interest. If the loan was disbursed earlier than that month, interest for the extra days is charged separately — the broken period.
It is usually deducted from the disbursement or added to the first EMI.
Frequently asked questions
Can I avoid broken-period interest?
Ask the lender to align the EMI date with the disbursal date, or to start the first EMI cycle from the disbursal.
Is it the same as pre-EMI?
Not quite. Pre-EMI is monthly interest on part-disbursed loans for under-construction homes; broken-period interest covers only the gap before the first EMI cycle.
