Show formula & working

Needs = take-home × 50% · Wants = take-home × 30% · Savings = take-home × 20% (shares editable)

    How this works

    The 50/30/20 rule is a simple starting point: half of take-home pay for needs, 30% for wants and at least 20% for savings and investments.

    With large EMIs or high rent, needs can exceed 50% — then trim wants first and raise savings as income grows.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are EMIs a need?

    Yes — loan EMIs and rent are needs. Pre-paying loans counts as saving.

    Is 20% enough to save?

    It is a floor. Starting late or with big goals usually means saving more.

    Should I use gross or take-home pay?

    Take-home pay, after tax and PF deductions.
