Lenders commonly allow roughly 40%–65% depending on income and profile.

Show formula & working

FOIR = (Existing EMIs + Proposed EMI) ÷ Net monthly income × 100

Some lenders also count credit-card minimums, rent or other fixed obligations. Lenders set their own limits; there is no single regulatory FOIR.

    How this works

FOIR is one of the first numbers a lender checks. If your total EMIs would take too large a share of income, the loan is cut down or declined.

Closing a small loan, choosing a longer tenure or adding a co-applicant's income all lower FOIR.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is FOIR set by RBI?

No. Each lender sets its own FOIR limits by income level, employer and profile.

    Which income is used?

Usually net take-home salary for salaried borrowers, and income as per ITR (often averaged) for the self-employed.
