How this works
A loan against an FD lets the deposit keep earning while you borrow a share of it, usually at a small margin over the FD rate.
Breaking the FD early costs the interest the bank claws back — it reprices the deposit at a lower rate, minus a penalty — plus the interest you stop earning on the money you take out.
Frequently asked questions
Which is cheaper?
For short needs, the loan is often cheaper; for needs close to maturity or for long periods, breaking can work out better. The calculator shows both.
Can I take a loan from another bank against my FD?
No — RBI does not allow banks to lend against FDs of other banks.
