Each month: Balance × r interest + 18% GST on it; payment reduces the balance

Minimum due = higher of (% of balance, floor, interest + GST + 1% of balance)

RBI requires the minimum due to cover at least the month's interest and charges, so the balance never grows (no negative amortisation). The extra 1% of the balance is an assumption for illustration; issuers set their own formula.

    How this works

Minimum payments shrink as the balance falls, so the debt drags on for years and the interest adds up to more than the original spend.

A fixed monthly payment — even a modest one — clears the card far faster. If you have a lower-cost loan option, consolidation can help too.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does paying the minimum take so long?

Most of each minimum payment goes to interest and GST; only a small slice reduces the balance.

    Does this include new spending?

No. It assumes you stop using the card while you repay.
